Description

CEFTIOFUR HCL + Ketoprofen Suspension for Injection is a combination drug used to treat bacterial infections in dogs and livestock like camels, cows, goats, sheep and pigs. It is used to treat the inflammatory symptoms associated with hyperthermia, pneumonia, shipping fever, foot rot, and endometritis. This medicine combines an antibiotic with ketoprofen, which is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory agent used to reduce pain and inflammation. Ceftiofur is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic, though some consider it a new generation cephalosporin. It works by inhibiting cell wall synthesis. It shows bactericidal action against a wide range of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, including Mannheimia, Actinobacillus, Streptococcus, Salmonella, and E. coli.

Indication

• For all the infections caused by microorganisms sensitive to ceftiofur together with inflammatory reaction. For the treatment of acute and chronic laminitis, acute infectious mastitis, dystocia and respiratory diseases. It can also be used in the immediate postsurgical period.
• Cattle, goats, sheep and camels: pasteurellosis, pneumonia, Haemophilusomnus, metritis, mastitis, footrot. Swine: pasteurellosis, bronchitis, pneumonia, pleuropneumonia, salmonellosis, colibacillosis.

Adverse Effects

• Adverse effects with the use of CEFTIOFUR HCL + Ketoprofen are typically rare and mild. Some common side effects may include but are not limited to:
• gastrointestinal effects (appetite loss, vomiting, diarrhea)
• discoloration at the injection site (in swine and cattle)

Precautions

• Do NOT use CEFTIOFUR HCL + Ketoprofen Suspension for Injection for an animal that: has a known allergy or hypersensitivity to ceftiofur or any other cephalosporin antibiotic.
• Treatment with this drug should be administered with caution for an animal that:
• is hypersensitive to other beta-lactam antibiotics such as penicillin.
• has renal failure.
• is pregnant or lactating.

Withdrawal Period

• Meat: 4 days
• Milk: 0 days

How To Use

• Shake well before use.
• For intramuscular injection Cattle, sheep, goats and camels: 1 ml per 50 kg body weight/day (1 mg/kg of ceftiofur and 3 mg/kg of ketoprofen) for 3 - 5 consecutive days.
